As a part of the joint cooperation between Aswan University and the Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction (at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, Aswan university president, met with Prof.. Amr Othman, assistant of the minister of social solidarity and director of Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dahshoury, dean of the faculty of medicine and chairman of Aswan university hospitals, and Dr. Ashraf Maabad , executive manager of Aswan university hospitals.

Aswan university president Prof. Ayman Othman stressed on the importance of the fruitful cooperation between the ministry of social solidarity represented in Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction, Aswan university and its hospitals, which launched the initiative of Addiction Rehabilitation and Treatment Center project in the Aswan Al Gadeda to serve Aswan people.

Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dahshoury accompanied by Prof. Dr. Amr Othman inspected the building of Addiction Treatment Center in Aswan Al Gadeda in order to determine the readiness of the building to be inaugurated.

He added that Aswan governorate does not have a center for the control and treatment of addiction, while there are (5) centers (Determination) affiliated to Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction at the level of the Republic, which are (Port Said – Qena – Hurghada – Marsa Matrouh – Minya). This center is the first of its kind in the Aswan for the treatment of addiction patients, it center includes (60) beds and (2) outpatient clinics, playgrounds and workshops in different professions to treat addicts and rehabilitate them psychologically, socially and professionally. The center provides free medical.

Prof. Amr Othman pointed out that the idea of ​​the project to rehabilitate Al-Azeema (determination) Center for Addiction Treatment is Aswan University’s and its hospitals’ as a national initiative to provide treatment to the people of Aswan governorate, where approximately (2000) cases are received annually. The center will be rehabilitated according to international standards. A department will be equipped to remove narcotics from patients with the provision of psychologists and sociologists from Aswan University Hospitals and the faculty of medicine in order to rehabilite patients after treatment and training them through workshops that are being prepared to connect them to the labor market for free. The project is expected to be completed within six months from the date of signing the cooperation protocol between the two parties. This center is the sixth of its kind in the governorates of the Republic for the treatment and control of addiction.

Dr. Ashraf Maabad explained that Aswan university hospitals lack such a center. It is part of the therapeutic and medical services provided by Aswan university hospitals to Aswan people and the people of Upper Egypt.
